Blue Plum 2017-05-13T13:45:15+00:00

The Blue Plum festival began in 1999 with the idea of bringing awareness to Downtown Johnson City- and having a little fun!  We have watched our downtown flourish and continue to bring the festival to the greater Johnson City community each year- highlighting our growing and thriving downtown area!

The festival consists of a 5K race, two days of music, art and craft vendors, children’s area, food court and much much more!  Our goal is to create events that families and friends can enjoy and make memories for years to come!

Apply to be a food vendorgeneral vendor, non-profit, or an art/craft vendor at this year’s event.

Chalk Art Celebration

New to this year’s festival will be a Chalk Art event, where area artists of all levels can participate. The sidewalk painting event draws inspiration from a 16th century Italian art form, where the sidewalks in Founders Park will be turned into a canvas for both professional and student artists. Art forms can be as diverse as original works, classical recreations, traditional Italian madonarri street painting, 3D realistic works, cartoons, modern abstractions, and more.

The event will begin at 9 am, with artists completing their design by 4 pm for judging. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-place winner in each category: $50 for Grades 5-8 and Grades 9-12, $100 for Emerging and Established.

New to chalk art? Experienced, but need some tips? Check out the link below to get the basics on how to go from an idea on paper to a completed chalk art project on the ground. These worksheets were developed for the use at a larger chalk art event in Luna Park, in San Jose, CA.
